Imaging the Volcanic Structures Beneath Gran Canaria Island Using New Gravity Data

چکیده

From a new gravity data set that covers homogeneously the whole surface of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands, Spain) and marine in nearest offshore, we have obtained Bouguer anomaly map island which improves previous ones. Using these anomalies, applied inversion approach to investigate structures beneath Island derive 3D sources model. The geometry with anomalous density values is constrained up depth approximately 20,000 m below sea level. interpretation model identified related different volcanic stages Canaria. Several deep-rooted high-density represent intrusive bodies emplaced early formation magma plumbing system Miocene edifices. A low-density body center may be associated syenitic core felsic central edifice (Tejeda Caldera). Shallow fractures acted as feeder dikes monogenetic volcanoes during rejuvenated stage. Finally, NW-SE rift, most important volcano-tectonic structure Canaria, has characteristic gravimetric signature represents long-lived extensional fracture zone controlled activity at least since Miocene.

Reconstructing Holocene vegetation on the island of Gran Canaria before and after human colonization

We provide the first fossil pollen and charcoal analysis from the island of Gran Canaria (Canary Islands). The pollen record obtained from Laguna de Valleseco (870 m a.s.l.) spans the late Holocene (c. 4500–1500 cal. yr BP) and thereby captures the impact of human colonization. During the earliest period, pollen composition resembled contemporary thermophilous communities, with palms (Phoenix c...

A long-term retrospective study on rehabilitation of seabirds in Gran Canaria Island, Spain (2003-2013)

AIMS The aims of this study were to analyze the causes of morbidity and mortality in a large population of seabirds admitted to the Tafira Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (TWRC) in Gran Canaria Island, Spain, from 2003 to 2013, and to analyze the outcomes of the rehabilitation process. METHODS We included 1,956 seabirds (133 dead on admission and 1,823 admitted alive) in this study. Causes of ...

An assessment of the concentrations of pharmaceutical compounds in wastewater treatment plants on the island of Gran Canaria (Spain)

An assessment of the concentrations of thirteen different therapeutic pharmaceutical compounds was conducted on water samples obtained from different wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) using solid phase extraction and high- and ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry detection (HPLC-MS/MS and UHPLC-MS/MS), was carried out. The target compounds included ketoprofen an...

Helminth-related Eosinophilia in African Immigrants, Gran Canaria

Of 788 recent African adult immigrants to Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 213 (27.0%) had eosinophilia. The most frequent causes were filariasis (29.4%), schistosomiasis (17.2%), and hookworm infection (16.8%). Stool microscopy and filarial and schistosomal serologic tests gave the highest diagnostic yield. Country of origin and eosinophil count were associated with specific diagnoses.
